“Ignite the FIRE”

Saturday, November 4th, 2017

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Honolulu Stake Center
1560 South Beretania St. Honolulu, HI 96826

What is University of Scouting? University of Scouting is an action-packed, fun-filled day of supplemental Scout Leader training. It is offered once a year to provide knowledge, ideas, tools and resources to help adult leaders, volunteers and Scouts in their Scouting positions.

The theme this year is “Ignite the FIRE” – the fire of your passion and commitment to Scouting. By attending this event you will join with other Scout leaders to rekindle your interests, your skills, and your enthusiasm which will burn brightly and help you deliver a high quality Scouting program to the youth you serve.

There are some exciting changes to University of Scouting this year. We have added many new classes specifically for Boy Scouts and Venturers. We are also holding the College of Commissioner Science at the same time. See the class catalog for details on all programs.

Some of the classes offered at University of Scouting include training for Den Chiefs, Den Leaders, Cubmasters & Assistant Cubmasters, Scoutmasters & Assistant Scoutmasters; Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops and Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews, alongside 65 other classes to choose from for all levels and positions in Scouting.

Why attend University of Scouting? University of Scouting is the perfect opportunity to improve your leadership skills, increase your Scouting knowledge and learn more about important Scouting topics. Every Scout deserves a well-trained leader!

Another great benefit is meeting and learning from other Scout leaders who share your interests, challenges and passion for Scouting. Use your time between classes and at lunch for networking, while reconnecting with old friends and making new ones!

There will be six one hour sessions with 18 classes in each session. Classes are led by experienced volunteers and professionals who will help you provide a fun, safe, interesting and exciting program for your Scouts.

Who should attend University of Scouting? Scout leaders and volunteers looking for the very best training and information sessions will find a variety of courses relevant to their current or future position in Scouting. All registered adult leaders, future adult leaders, unit committee members, volunteers and Scout parents should attend. This includes leaders for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturing, as well as unit, district and council volunteers.

We now have many classes specifically designed for Boy Scouts and Venturers. Youth and adults are welcome to attend any class. There are no classes for Cub Scouts.

How much does it cost? Early bird registration until October 29 is $25.00. After October 29, the registration fee is $30.00. One class (rocket building) requires an additional fee to cover the cost of supplies. The registration fee for Boy Scouts, Venturers and instructors is $15.00. The fee is paid during the online registration process after selecting classes. The registration site can be accessed through the Aloha Council calendar or directly at: https://www.scoutingevent.com/104-UOS2017.

What’s included in my registration fee? In addition to receiving a full day of fun, interesting class sessions, handouts, class materials and fellowship with hundreds of fellow Scouters, everyone will receive a hot lunch and a special commemorative 2017 Aloha Council University of Scouting patch.

What should I wear and bring? Wear your FULL Field (Class A) Uniform. Bring a pen and paper to take notes. Most importantly, bring your desire to learn, and your commitment to Ignite the FIRE!
