ILST — Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops is a youth leadership training course designed for Scouts who hold, or are preparing to hold, leadership positions in a Scouts BSA troop.
It helps Scouts understand what their leadership role is, how the troop leadership team works together, and how to lead other Scouts effectively. ILST is typically conducted by the Scoutmaster and senior youth leaders and is intended for positions such as Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Quartermaster, Scribe, Instructor, and other troop leadership roles.
The training generally focuses on three areas: knowing your role, communicating and working as a team, and developing effective leadership skills. It also prepares Scouts for more advanced leadership training opportunities such as National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT).
