NYLT Staff Search - Summer (Training)
Being on NYLT staff is a blast! It also requires dedication, hard work, and solid preparation. Still interested in joining the team? Take the next step—the Youth Training Committee is offering a Staff Search interview day.
If you served on the NYLT staff last year, you do not need to attend Staff Search.
Interviews will be held at the Cockrell Scout Center.
What to Expect:
After your interview, your results will be shared with the NYLT Scoutmasters. You won’t receive direct feedback, but you’re welcome to attend a future Staff Search if you’d like another opportunity. The selection process will begin about a week after the staff search and will last several weeks. If you are selected, you will be contacted by one of the course directors. If you have not heard from someone after eight weeks, you were not selected for this round of courses. Keep in mind, this is a highly competitive process, and we are always bringing on new staff members, so you should keep an eye out for the next staff search.
Checklist for Staff Search:
- Wear the field uniform for your program.
- Prepare a 5-minute oral presentation on one of the topics introduced at NYLT topic—such as team development stages, conflict resolution, or ethical decision-making.
- Bring the necessary props for your presentation. AV technology will not be available.
- Participate in a 6-8-minute interview with an experienced NYLT staff member about your experiences since NYLT.
To Be Eligible for Staff, You Must:
- Be at least age 14 on the first day of the course.
- Have held a leadership role in your troop or crew.
- Have completed NYLT as a participant.
- If selected for staff, you must attend Trainer's EDGE before the start of the NYLT course, which is offered several times a year.
