Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)

Event Details

The BSA IOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills) course is a vital training program developed by the Boy Scouts of America to provide adult leaders with the fundamental outdoor skills necessary for leading Scouts on camping trips and outdoor adventures. This hands-on course covers essential topics such as campsite selection, outdoor cooking, knot tying, map and compass navigation, fire building, first aid, and Leave No Trace principles. Participants engage in practical, scenario-based learning exercises designed to simulate real-life camping situations, allowing them to develop confidence and proficiency in outdoor leadership. By completing the IOLS course, adult leaders gain the knowledge and skills needed to effectively guide Scouts in safe and enjoyable outdoor experiences, fostering a deeper appreciation for nature and promoting personal growth within the scouting community.
