RECHARTER OVERVIEW

The Lake Erie Council’s goal is to make the charter renewal process efficient and streamlined for our units. Our online resource page, lecbsa.org/resources/charter-renewal has links, forms, FAQ’s and the Charter Renewal Guidebook. Your service area commissioner team, unit serving executive and our registrar staff can assist you in the charter renewal process.

To ensure your unit’s charter is renewed on time, we ask you to submit your charter NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13th. Please refer to the list for turn-in locations, dates and times.

UNIT INFORMATION:

• Contact your Unit Commissioner (1st), Service Area Commissioner (2nd) or Unit Service Executive (3rd) if you have questions regarding the process.
• Turn in completed paperwork to Unit Commissioner, Service Area Commissioner, Unit Service Executive or go to one of the council-wide turn in locations (including Roundtables).

• The National BSA Membership Fee is $33.00 for each youth (subsidized by LEC for 2020) and $36.00 for for each adult.
• The Lake Erie Council Insurance is $1.00 per month ($12.00 per year) for every youth and adult unit member. This insurance is calculated as a step in the Internet Recharter process.
• The Unit Liability Insurance Fee for each unit is $60.00 and is included with the calculations performed by the National BSA Internet Rechartering Tool.
• Boy's Life magazine subscription at recharter is $12.00. This fee is calculated as a step in the Internet Recharter process.
• The safety of our members is the most important part of the Scouting experience and continues to be our number one priority. All registered adult volunteers must submit the “Additional Disclosures & Background Check Authorization” form. The BSA will also perform periodic rechecks of criminal backgrounds to support the continued safety of youth in our programs.

APPLICATIONS:

• New Youth Members and Adult Members can be added to the unit’s roster during Internet Recharter.
• Applications must be included for all NEW adults and youth added during recharter, with all signatures and payment.
• YPT Certificates for all NEW adults added during recharter must be included.

YOUTH PROTECTION:

• All adults should have taken current YPT, if not, have them take it and reload the roster or remove the leader from the roster.

DUE DATES:

• Charters are due by December 13, 2019 and only accepted after commissioner review and approval.
• All submitted paperwork must be error free.
• All signatures, fees, applications and YPT certificates must be attached.
• Please attach your unit’s Journey to Excellence scorecard.
