Merit Badge University & Workshop Make-up

Event Details

Merit Badge Make-Up Events

These sessions are for Scouts who previously registered for a merit badge event in the spring that was postponed. Some events have been combined, and while we are working to put on the event with as few changes as possible, there will be some adjustments. We will be operating the event under the Day Camp guidelines as outlined by the State of Ohio's public health orders. You can see the order and our comments on how we will meet the standards in our LEC Day Camp Operations document.

  • Unit camping will not be available (at least through July 1, 2020).
    • If your family household would like to camp during the weekend, we're offering a special $15 discount for the Family Camp Weekend for attendees of the Merit Badge Make-Up Event. (A special coupon will be included in your event confirmation email.)
  • Lunch will be provided for all.
  • Merit Badge class sizes have been reduced to a maximum of 9 scouts.
  • Temperature checks will occur upon arrival to camp, from within your vehicle. All persons inside the vehicle will be checked, and if anyone has a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, the full vehicle will be sent home. Please check your own temperature prior to leaving for camp. Refunds will not be made for people arriving to camp with a fever. If you call on the morning of to report symptoms, we will be able to make a refund.
  • We also ask that all attendees do a self-assessment for each of the three days prior to coming to camp for COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, or shortness of breath).
  • Everyone is required bring a personal face covering that covers your nose to your chin. Wearing your face covering is encouraged for scouts throughout the entire day, and required when in close proximity of others, or indoors.
  • Additional hand sanitizing stations will be installed around camp and at each program area. Everyone should sanitize upon arrival and when leaving the program area, and at any transition time.

Arrival & Departure
Drop-off and pick-up will be at the Camp Wyandot Parking Lot (52420 Bates Road, Wakeman, OH 44889).
Arrival will be stagged according to Service Area/Council:

7:00am - SBSA Service Area 4
7:20am - SBSA Service Area 3
7:40am - SBSA Service Area 2
8:00am - SBSA Service Area 1
8:20am - Out of Council (Non-Lake Erie Council Units)

  1. You will be greeted at the gate and directed to a parking spot. Please stay in your car until a staff member has approached your vehicle. Please wear your face covering.
  2. The staff member will take the temperature of each individual in the vehicle, and ask the driver to confirm that no individuals have had symptoms of, or been exposed to, COVID-19 within the past three days.
  3. Once cleared, individuals will head to the Lions Shelter for check-in. They will sanitize their hands, receive their wristband, maps, and schedule. Scout Leaders should have a copy of their Scouts' BSA medical form (Parts A/B) on hand. Scouts dropped off should keep a copy with them.
  4. Scouts will be directed to their merit badge instruction area and should head there immediately. Upon arrival, they should sanitize again. Automotive Maintenance will take place at the Ranger Shop. You will be given directions after checking in.
  5. Pickup will begin at 4pm. If not at camp, the driver should go to the Wyandot Parking Lot and let the staff member know who they are picking up. The staff member will radio call to the small groups waiting area to direct those scouts to the parking lot, where they will be released to the vehicle.

Notes for Adults
Since class sizes will be limited, we won't be able to allow extra adults within the class teaching area. You are welcome to hang out nearby, but should bring a personal camp chair or hammock. You're also welcome to bring a fishing pole to fish around the lake, and we have plenty of hiking trails to explore! Looking for a service project? Our Ranger would be happy to have your assistance!

Meals
Lunch will be provided for all. With this volume of campers, we will be delivering lunch to your program area to prevent a large group gathering. There is a one hour break scheduled for lunch. Campers do not have to stay confined to the teaching area during that time, but should have a buddy if they leave, and remember to remain physically distant from others.

While Unit Camping is not currently allowed under the State of Ohio public health orders, if individual family households would like to camp overnight, they can contact Jarrod Blundy to make arrangements.
