Discover Wood Badge

Are you ready to elevate your leadership in Scouting? Wood Badge is the premier advanced leadership experience — available exclusively to registered Scouting volunteers and professionals. Whether you serve in Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouts, Exploring, or at the district/council level — you belong here.

What You’ll Do

Over this immersive two-weekend course, you’ll engage in hands-on learning that brings essential leadership concepts to life. Through presentations, games, discussions and team activities, you’ll develop skills in:

  • Active listening and communication
  • Managing conflict effectively
  • Leading and navigating change
  • Understanding team development stages
  • Coaching & mentoring for growth
  • Applying leadership across different stages
  • Practicing servant leadership
  • Project planning and execution
  •  …and much more.
  • These aren’t lectures — they’re authentic experiences that equip you to lead with confidence.

Why Attend Wood Badge?

Here’s what you’ll gain by saying “yes” to this leadership journey:

  • Strengthen your unit. Your training will ripple outward — improving your own unit, and supporting the units of those you work with and your Scouts’ units.
  • Deepen your understanding of Scouting. You’ll gain clarity on the “what” and “why” behind Scouting’s mission — not just what we do, but why it matters.
  • Experience tools you’ll use for life. The leadership methods and strategies you’ll learn are as valuable off the field as they are in Scouting.
  • Enjoy the journey. Meet passionate Scouters, form lasting connections and have fun in the process.
  • Enhance other areas of your life. These leadership skills don’t stay in Scouting—they carry into your work, community, church and family too.
  • Wish I took it sooner” the number one comment from participants after taking the course

Course Requirements:

To participate in Wood Badge, each attendee must:

  • Be a registered member of Scouting America.
  • Have completed all basic training for their current Scouting position.
  • Complete the required pre-course modules available on my.scouting.org
  •  prior to the first weekend.
  • Submit a BSA Annual Health & Medical Record (Parts A, B and C) signed by a licensed medical professional.

Course Purpose

At its heart, Wood Badge is about creating highly skilled leaders who empower strong Scouting units. When our units thrive, we achieve the mission of Scouting. As Baden-Powell noted nearly a century ago:

“One of the purposes of Wood Badge training is to get Scouters to think about the practice of Scouting, to meet together, to exchange experiences, and to live together in the spirit of the Scout Oath.”   Sir Robert Baden-Powell
