Cub Scout Rangemaster Training

Prepare to help deliver safe, exciting Range & Target Activities for Cub Scouts by becoming a certified Cub Scout Rangemaster! This required training equips experienced Scout adult leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to safely operate Cub Scout archery and slingshot ranges at district and council events. Participants will learn proper range setup, equipment management, safety procedures, and best practices for providing a fun and engaging experience for Cub Scouts.

Upon successful completion, Rangemaster certification is valid for two years.

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed for Scout adult leaders who already have Range & Target Activities experience and are interested in serving as Cub Scout Rangemasters at district and council events.

What You'll Learn

• Participants will receive instruction on:
• Cub Scout Range & Target Activities equipment
• Proper range setup and operation
• Safety procedures and best practices
• Expectations and responsibilities of a certified Cub Scout Rangemaster
• This hands-on training prepares volunteers to confidently support Cub Scout shooting sports programs throughout the council.
• Volunteer Commitment

As part of this training, participants will be asked to commit to assisting at three district or council Range & Target Activities events during their certification period. Volunteer opportunities may include:

• Cub Scout Day Camps
• STEALTH
• HALT
• Other council-sponsored Range & Target Activities events

Your service helps ensure that Cub Scouts across the Illowa Council have access to safe, high-quality shooting sports experiences.

• A sack lunch
• Weather-appropriate clothing
• Water bottle
• A willingness to serve and help grow Cub Scout range and target activities
