Merit Badge Opportunities - Scouts will have the opportunity to attend the following Merit Badges (sign-up online): First-aid, Safety, Truck Transport, Traffic Safety, Automotive Maintenance, Model Design and Building, Fire Safety.  Please have your Scouts bring a filled out blue card for each merit badge. Scouts have the option to earn a maximum of (2) Merit Badges, choosing this option will limit or cancel their availability to conduct station activities. There are no Merit Badge prerequisites published, any merit badge requirements completed before the camporee should be brought to the event for sign-off.

Scout-box Derby - You will need to design and build your soap-box (wooden cart) before you arrive at the camporee. Enough time will be provided so that you can assemble your Scout-box before the competition. The winning team will ride off into the Sunset with the Trophy. Sorry, no peddle power, battery, gas, nitrous oxide fuel, wind or otherwise engineering marvel to propel your Scout-box cart. Additional information about this event is listed below.

Programs and Activities - This will be a unique, Race-themed camporee, which includes mechanical tools stations, Fire Safety, First-aid activity stations and learning about automotive maintenance and race track safety.

Units, patrols, or individual Scouts may rotate through many of the 18 different activity stations, or take MB classes. Please see the Schedule of Events for further details, attached to this packet.

It’s racing time “Don’t be a CHICKEN “Be Prepared”. If you see a Chicken, be sure to grab a picture with your camera for evidence, you can earn points towards the Program Activities.

If you see Sergeant Major Barry S. Powell,... (late nephew to Lord Baden Powell) DO NOT RUN. Be ready to be inspected and tested on basic scout skills. Sergeant Major Barry Powell “Will” deduct points or add time for incorrect answers and Sergeant Major BP will reward points or reduce time for questions answered correctly. It’s best to be nice to the SGM and he likes Scout snacks!

Your troop, patrol, or crew, is encouraged to do a skit or song at the Saturday night campfire program. Please have your skit approved by your Scoutmaster, Shipmaster or Advisor.

There will also be the super fantastic Soap-box derby RACE.  Scouts will design, build and RACE a soap-box derby car. Leaders are also invited to race!

Prizes to the Winners!!

WHY- Come learn a new skill/Merit Badge, understand racing and how the race track is designed. Bring your Scout spirit, assist your Patrol in saving a race car driver, maneuver your medical crew through a crash site and evacuate injured racers, employ your pit crew to quickly inspect a race vehicle, change a tire, jump start a battery and get your race car back in the Race. Your Patrol will race other Troops, Patrols and Districts at the "Scout-Box-Derby Camporee". Are you Prepared!

As always, per BSA guidelines, Scouts should obtain and read the merit badge pamphlet before attending to Be Prepared and fully participate. Click here for Scout Store.

The registration website has workbooks available for all merit badges.  Scouts should bring the merit badge pamphlet and the workbooks to class.  Ensure name and troop are on each document.

MB Class Prerequisites defined by instructors are found on this page.

During registration to select classes, look for the Select Schedule, Morning Classes / Afternoon Classes link, and select the classes available. During registration and class selection, pay particular attention to RED "Information Needed" links.

Almost all classes have Pre-Requisites that must be completed before class.  Bring the completed requirements to class to receive credit. Please see the note on prerequisites required prior to class when selecting classes.

Each Scout must bring a Scout Master signed/approved Blue Card.

Go-Karting: Scouts planning to participate in Go-Karts on Sunday must bring this this signed parent-waiver: https://scoutingevent.com/attachment/BSA082/document_15536029990_2552.pdf

Parents need to engage their Unit Leaders for information.  This is a Scout Camporee - Troop/Patrol oriented event.  Individuals may attend the auto racing in the evening, but are not participating in the days events UNLESS they are in a Troop/Patrol registered to attend. If there are any questions please contact the Mark Chipman at kchs1973@gmail.com
