2017 Vigil Induction

Only Vigil members and candidates may sign up to attend Vigil induction events.  Vigil candidates who received an invitation letter may sign up using this registration page.  There are two induction opportunities scheduled.  The first is at Goshen Scout Reservation August 12-13, 2017, and the second is at Hallowood (near Comus, MD) November 24-25, 2017.  If you are not able to schedule your induction on either of these dates, you must contact Mr. Larry Ruh (301-588-2683, vigilinductions@wipit470.org) at your earliest opportunity.

Vigil candidates should identify their guide when registering.  Vigil members planning to be a Vigil guide should register as such.

In addition to your uniform shirt and Brotherhood Sash, candidates should dress appropriately to remain in the outdoors for a lengthy time (remember come prepared for the season and not the day).  Prepare your pack for the experience by including the following items:

  • A canteen and/or large bottle for water for safety, etc.
  • Blankets (appropriate for the weather and season)
  • Rain gear
  • Watch
  • Matches
  • Pocket knife, ax, or saw

You must arrive no later than 8:00 p.m. on the chosen date for your ceremony. At Goshen in August, dinner will be available at about 6:00 pm.  At Hallowood in November, you are invited to attend a Pre-Vigil Bar-B-Que and Social, which starts at 5:30 pm. The Vigil staff will furnish the coffee, cold drink, potato salad, and charcoal grill; you bring whatever you would like to cook (steak, hamburger, bar-b-que, etc.).  Most chapters coordinate dinner plans with their members.

Breakfast will be provided by the Vigil staff and you should expect to depart for home about 9:00 a.m. Our experience has shown that you will be tired following the Vigil; driving home is not permitted. You MUST carpool with someone who is not participating in the overnight activities (this is a National policy).

  • The cost is $20 per member.
  • For those Vigil members who register for the August event; there will not be any additional cost to register for additional dates, you may register for both dates with the one registration or you may come back later and register for the November induction.
  • All registrants must bring a copy of their BSA Annual Health and Medical Form (parts A & B). There are links to the form on this registration page.
  • Check-in at Camp Post by 5 PM preferred.  Dinner will be available between about 6:00-7:30 PM
