National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) Course

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT):
NYLT is Scouting’s top youth leadership course, giving Scouts the skills and confidence to lead in their troops, crews, and beyond. This high-energy program teaches communication, teamwork, goal-setting, and servant leadership through hands-on activities and outdoor challenges.
Who Can Attend:
- Scouts BSA (age 13+)
- Venturers & Sea Scouts meeting requirements
- Youth in current or upcoming leadership roles
- ILST/ILSC required before attending
What to Expect:
- A six-day or two-weekend experience featuring:
- Team-building challenges
- Outdoor skills
- Leadership sessions
- Problem-solving activities
- Camping and patrol teamwork
- A final leadership project
Program Outcomes:
After NYLT, participants return to their units with:
- Stronger leadership and communication skills
- Greater confidence
- Improved teamwork abilities
- A deeper understanding of Scouting values
- Practical tools to support their unit’s success
Many NYLT graduates go on to serve as senior youth leaders, NYLT staff, and even National Jamboree staff. NYLT strengthens Scouting’s mission by preparing youth to make ethical decisions and lead with character. The skills gained serve them not only in Scouting, but also in school, work, and life.
